Errors writing image to Sandisk MicroSDHC UHS-1 card with adaptor

I am trying to write an image (using dd of=/dev/mmcblk0) to a MicroSD card (in an adaptor for an SD card) and my system messages filled up with repeats of these errors:

Buffer I/O error on device mmcblk0, logical block 295602
lost page write due to I/O error on mmcblk0
sdricoh_cs 0.0: query_status: timeout waiting for 4
sdricoh_cs 0.0: sdricoh_request: transfer end error
mmcblk0: error -110 sending status command, retrying
mmcblk0: error -110 sending status command, retrying
mmcblk0: unknown error -22 sending read/write command, card status 0x900
end_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk0, sector 2365880

This happened with both a block size of 4M and 1M. I am using Slackware 14.0.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Make sure the microSD is fully inserted into the SD adapter, (I had a little difficulty the first time I used a microSD in an adapter).

Thanks for your reply. I tried that but it didn't seem to work (maybe I still haven't pushed it in far enough). Anyway since I was in a hurry I bought a USB to SD-card adaptor and used that instead.
