Hi, in the process of picking up a refurb Thinkpad T430. Intel graphics, not dual. Any good for Linux? If so, which Linux version should I look into. I am a newbie. Many thanks.
Earlier this year I purchased a refurb T420 with Intel graphics and love it. I have Mageia 5 & Debian Testing installed without any issues, that I know of. Just about any decent distro should work on it without problems.
I put the Windows 10 enterprise hard drive in the laptop bag. I hate dual booting anymore.
Too easy to break. I figure what is the point for my usage. SSD hard drives are cheap now.
Plus it makes my t430 faster. It takes about 3 minutes to swap out drives if I need to.
Which Linux should you look into?
Going out on a Limb here.
Based on Ubuntu and should be newbie friendly
I would like to say anything is good for Linux as long as you know how to make it work.
Well, the distro you are looking for depends on your needs. But if you wish to use something user-friendly, fast with good package management, do check out Linux Mint. You can dual boot without problem but you should shrink the Windows main partition from within Windows first (just to avoid any crash, with Windoze, you never know).
If you need help concerning UEFI, there's lots of stuff around. Dual booting with UEFI is quite easy.

Hello and welcome to the forum
Can you tell us the amount of memory this laptop has? This might help us to better fine tune our suggestions.
I have a Lenovo T430 and T430S (basically the same as T430 but slimmer).
I installed different versions of slackware (14.0, 14.1, 14.2) with no problem.
These laptops models (which used to be IBM Thinkpad series) have a good reputation
and are linux-friendly.
