Didn't see the laptop forum sorry 4 reposting Panasonic CF-25 help
hi, i am fairly new to Linux, but i have tried n successfully run Ubuntu and a few other distros on a few machines. I recently got a panasonic toughbook cf-25 relic and was trying to bring it to life, mostly as an MP3 player. i managed to HD install Puppy, DSL, and Feather Linux all with some problems. BTW no networking capabilities, i have burned every thing to get anything on the HD of this machine
puppy was the best as far as hardware recognition, but the worst performer... very slow as if it wasn't using any ram but rather a ram disk while loading off of the HD in turn i couldn't even get Xine to load
DSL was a great performer but i could not find the appropriate ALSA drivers to run the sound... puppy ran it with an ALSA legacy driver.. not automatically though
Feather seemed great on CD, once HD installed i never got past the boot and into X i tried many things from lilo config to grub options, i saw many post on hd install probs so i gave up on that one.
i am about to try Slax tonight to see if it may run, but im posting this to see if anyone out there has a good recommendations on which distro i should use, i do have windows ME on another HD but it runs choppy after a bit so i looked to Linux
thanks in advanced
Bob
