Cursor jumps with Synaptics touchpad

I have a new Macbook with Debian Etch installed on it, and it's working quite well. There is one BIG annoyance with it's touchpad left: whenever I accidentally touch it's edge AND I already have a finger on it, the cursor jumps unexpectedly to a totally different place. I've read the relevant README's and Synaptics entry in Gentoo Wiki. I had this exact same problem with an older laptop of mine.

This is what "synclient -l" reports:

Code:
 Parameter settings:
    LeftEdge             = 100
    RightEdge            = 1116
    TopEdge              = 50
    BottomEdge           = 337
    FingerLow            = 25
    FingerHigh           = 30
    MaxTapTime           = 180
    MaxTapMove           = 100
    MaxDoubleTapTime     = 200
    SingleTapTimeout     = 180
    ClickTime            = 100
    FastTaps             = 0
    EmulateMidButtonTime = 75
    VertScrollDelta      = 25
    HorizScrollDelta     = 0
    VertEdgeScroll       = 1
    HorizEdgeScroll      = 0
    VertTwoFingerScroll  = 0
    HorizTwoFingerScroll = 0
    MinSpeed             = 0.3
    MaxSpeed             = 1
    AccelFactor          = 0.35
    EdgeMotionMinZ       = 30
    EdgeMotionMaxZ       = 160
    EdgeMotionMinSpeed   = 1
    EdgeMotionMaxSpeed   = 400
    EdgeMotionUseAlways  = 0
    UpDownScrolling      = 0
    LeftRightScrolling   = 0
    UpDownRepeat         = 1
    LeftRightRepeat      = 1
    ScrollButtonRepeat   = 100
    TouchpadOff          = 0
    GuestMouseOff        = 0
    LockedDrags          = 0
    RTCornerButton       = 3
    RBCornerButton       = 0
    LTCornerButton       = 2
    LBCornerButton       = 0
    TapButton1           = 0
    TapButton2           = 0
    TapButton3           = 0
    CircularScrolling    = 0
    CircScrollDelta      = 0.01
    CircScrollTrigger    = 0
    CircularPad          = 0
    PalmDetect           = 1
    PalmMinWidth         = 10
    PalmMinZ             = 200
    CoastingSpeed        = 0
    PressureMotionMinZ   = 30
    PressureMotionMaxZ   = 160
    PressureMotionMinFactor = 1
    PressureMotionMaxFactor = 1
Note that modifying FingerLow and FingerHigh parameters does not help, I tried that. The left edge will still consider even the slightest touch as a touch. I suppose that's because there's already a finger on the pad, exerting some pressure on it.

I also tried changing the LeftEdge value (see "synclient -m 1") so that I could disable to left edge of the pad, but it did not seem to help at all. Only value that had any real effect was RightEdge.

For some reason the PalmDetect does not help either, even though it's supposed to fix this problem. Does this mean that I'm hosed with my overly large Apple touchpad ?
