Configuring wireless on HP Mini. Cannot switch on using the function key

Hello,

Code:
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=10.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=lucid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS"

HP Mini 210 x86_64

Kernel 3.2.6
I cannot enable my wireless by using the function key.

And most importantly I cannot enable my wireless. It should turn blue when I click on it (fn f12), but it remains red.

My my HP Mini, I also have Fedora 17 on a separate partition. When I boot I can activate the using the fn keys wireless.

Everything seems to be ok with loading the modules, fireware, etc.

I have an HP Mini too, but mine has Atheros wireless, not Broadcom. I've not looked into fixing the wireless button. But I did discover that the wireless is sometimes disabled by the rfkill feature. That might be your problem too. See 'man rfkill'.
Code:
$ # install the rfkill package, if it isn't already
$ sudo apt-get install rfkill
$
$ # If any of these say yes, then rfkill may be blocking your wireless.
$ sudo rfkill list all
0: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
$
$ # to unblock rfkill
$ sudo rfkill unblock all
Happy with ur solution... then tick "yes" and mark as Solved!
