I have a Compaq C501nr with Fedora7 (2.6.22.5-76.fc7PAE)on it.
When i use the GUI to mute the system my mute button lights up :-)
however when i press the mute button on the laptop itself nothing happens.
The same is true for the volume up and volume down buttons.
