Backlight stays on on DPMS

I have a Pavilion zv5474EA (Nvidia graphics).

Most things are working OK, but when DPMS blanks the display, the backlight stays on. This happens with standby, suspend and off states.

It's minor, but very annoying...

One strange issue with the diplay that I have noticed is that it dims on AC power and gets brighter on batteries, just the opposite of what I would expect.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
