Averatec Laptop

In Mandriva 2008, I had to disable ACPI in order to install. After that all worked fine.

The problem I'm having is that 2009 is refusing to install, computer locks up as soon as I get to installation.....

I tried turning off ACPI but that trick is no longer working.. The last attempt I saw that the install seemed to hang up on libncurses5..

Is there any way to selectively omit installation of packages during a install process..

Not enough information.
Please state which laptop.

Have you checked Linux on Laptops to see if your machine is represented?

Common laptop options are:

noapic nolapic noacpi vga=776

Last I looked, the mandriva install was not very configurable in terms of fine package selection. It's supposed to be user-friendly.
