ATI drivers problem

hello everyone
I have mandriva 2006 installed on my HP laptop, Im using kernel 2.6.12-15mdk and ATI express 200. The only problem with my machine is everytime i log out X crashes and I have to restart the computer and last time that I tried to upgrade with latest driver off ATI's webstie x failed to start so i went through the instructions on the ATI website (cuz they say its a kernel problem not the driver) but the thing is that i don't know my AGP card my video is pci so anybody can help me through this ??? by the way my laptop is 64 bit and im running Xorg 6.9.0

Thank you
