May be obvious, but do you have the BIOS set to attempt boot on the CD first, before the hard drive?
Sometimes, when burning boot discs to cd you need to burn at 4x just to cut down the number of errors. If this doesn't work I'd say your drive just doesn't want to read burned media as well as it should, but you may have some fun troubleshooting this one.
i do have the bios setup to boot from cd first thats how i know i can install windows as for the burning at 4* ill have to give it a go at the momment im trying to boot it from floppy but still no joy
thanks nige
hello iv tried burning a cd at a lower speed but i am still having no joy any way im trying to install suse 9.1 on this laptop so i thought i would try and create a floppy disk set to boot that way, now on the cd set i have when you go in to /mnt/cdrom/boot and readme it tells you how to do this it tells you to make 3 floppys the 2nd floppy and 3rd floppy are fine but the first one which is the main boot floppy just wont work im using this command to write it to my floppy "dd if=bootdsk1 of=/dev/fd0u1440" it seems to write the image to the floppy but when i put the floppy in and try and boot with it i get this error "invalid system disk replace the disk and press any key" i just dont know what to do any more ideas appreciated thanks nige
