5500 for me. I love it sometime and hate it others. Although most of the time I love it. It has so many features and is really powerful. If you want to talk about zaurus freednode has a #zaurus and a #openzaurus irc channel. And for software

"sometimes the screen freezes and soft-reset wont do no good."

I get that sometimes when it is low on power. Plug in the recharger and turn off the screen for about 10 seconds and it should resume woring OK.

I:m in japan and would like to buy a zaurus that doesn:t seem to be available anywhere else. Problem is the linux comes in Japanese and I would perfer English. I:ve been using Linux for some time but never on a handheld (quite excited). Question is this, what is the license? Can I install new versions at will? Can I install an English version as soon as I get this?

"what is the license? "

Zaurus runs Embedded Linux which is released under the GPL.

"Can I install new versions at will? Can I install an English version as soon as I get this?"

Yes.

ok, i admit i am a super linux newbie just managed to installed my mandrake9.1 two days ago(still exploring)
i know nothing about nothing at this point of time. but i am trying my best to learn. believe me i went throught tutorials before i came for help.

there area a few questions that i am facing.
1. IrDa to my 6108 is inconsistent. it works 1 out of 30 tries... (it works)

2. is it possible to obtain internet connection from the cradle without a CF network card?
- i have windows intellisync.
- i setup a lan connection on my Z, and it has the default IP there
- i use my windows to ping the default ip, it replies... so i assume that there is a connection between my Z
and my windows... but what to do right after that? i cant seem to get a connection...

3. how to setup the syncing software for my Z and my mandrake?

sorry for being such a newbie and asking stupid question, but i promise i will learn.

by the way, i have gone through the dev how to from the sharp site... but it is talking gibberish to me(newbie here~)so is there a clearer guide or any kind soul can help me out here?

Awesome. When I posted this message I was at the store here in Japan. Here is a link to the PDA I've been looking at for about a month. I want to confirm two things if possible.

http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT5915008901.html

1. Where can I find out for sure if that English Linux will run on this. The sales person said no but I don't think they even know what Linux is all about but I'd like to be 100% sure.

2. Can this sync with Apple's OS X?

Thanks for all the help.

I had trouble with trying to sync with my Slackware box. From what I've read, the usbdnet drivers are kinda flaky. You can sync via wireless connection. I just got a Linksys WCF12 card and it worked right out of the box.

FYI
I recommend installing Open Zaurus instead of the Sharp ROMs.

Also, for packages try
the Zaurus Software Index
