Any thoughts on how I can get my touchpad to act the way it does in knoppix?

I'm using Kubuntu, and the unresponsiveness is maddening. I can try to double-tap some things 5 times before it registers. Other times it works okay. In knoppix live, it works great.

How can I copy this? It seems to be more than just copying the xorg.conf settings (which knoppix doesn't have, anyway).

Any thoughts are appreciated.

is your CPU bogged down in kubuntu? How much idle time?

Usually when a user input is nonresponsive it is because something else is keeping the processor tied up.
