VectorLinux 5.1 STD installation problem

I've posted this question in another forum, but I wanted a wider audience.

I'm trying to install VectorLinux (VL) 5.1 STD on a HP machine. I'd like to stay with VL 5.1 STD (if at all possible) for compatibility with many others VL machines I have running 5.1 STD. The machine specifics are below:

HP Compaq dc7100 CMT
Pentium 4 @ 3.2GHz
250GB SATA harddrive.
1GB memory
From the installation CD, it boots OK to the boot: prompt (by the way I've used this CD to install on other machines), then I depress CR, some bad messages scroll by, and a kernel panic message (see below).

- Some of the messages before the kernel panic message:

Kernel bug at apic.c: 388!
:
EIP setup_local_APIC
Code:
void __init setup_local_APIC (void)
{
                        :
/*
 * Double-check whether this APIC is really registered.
 */
if (!apic_id_registered())
    BUG(); ***DIES HERE - LINE 388***
Call trace
init
APIC_init_uniprocessor

Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init

- This is still happens although i enter noapic, nolapic, or acpi=on at the boot prompt (i.e. boot: linux noapic). also, i think i tried nosmp on the boot line as well.

Has anyone encountered this and know of a solution?

Please advise, thanks in advance,
David

Smile VL 5.1 STD installation problem [SOLVED].

OK .. this has been finally solved ...

FYI:
All I needed to do was to disable IO APIC in the BIOS. After that, it worked just fine.

Thank you for your responses.
