Problem compiling 2.6.36.2 on Slackware 13.1

Hey!

I got some errors when I've tried to compile the 2.6.36.2 kernel on a newly installed Slackware 13.1 system. This is how I have done it:

...

zcat /proc/config.gz > .config
make oldconfig

make menuconfig

and then

make all

And the error I get when I enter 'make all' is the following lines:

make all
/usr/src/linux-2.6.36.2/scripts/gcc-version.sh: lineygcc: command not found
/usr/src/linux-2.6.36.2/scripts/gcc-version.sh: lineygcc: command not found
/usr/src/linux-2.6.36.2/arch/x86/Makefile:81: stack protector enabled but no compiler support
mygcc: Command not found
CHK include/linux/version.h
CHK include/generated/utsrelease.h
CC kernel/bounds.s
/binygcc: command not found
make[1]: *** [kernel/bounds.s] Error 127
make: *** [prepare0] Error 2

Thanks for any possible help!

I assume that you did a full install?
When compiling kernels I always just do
Code:
make && make modules_install
followed by
Code:
cp arch/x86_64/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.37-rc5+
cp System.map /boot/System.map-2.6.37-rc5+
cp .config /boot/config-2.6.37-rc5+
substituting your kernel version for the one listed and x86 for x86_64 if on 32-bit.

And where does the "mygcc" and "/binygcc" come from ?

grep -R mygcc linux-2.6.36.2/ ,
grep -R binygcc linux-2.6.36.2/ : Nothing.

andrewthomas: I've installed everything else than X

I tried if it was the same with an older kernel. So wasn't the case, kernel 2.6.35.9 was successfully installed. This is beyond my knowledge.

It's an Intel Dual-Core and I'm doing it with SSH over local network from an Intel i3. But why did it work to compile 2.6.35.9 but not 2.6.36.1 or 2.6.36.2? Has something changed?

The problem is not present in 2.6.35 just 2.6.36.

Solution
CONFIG_CROSS_COMPILE=""
