kernel upgrade 2.4 to 2.6.17.13 problem

Hy
I make a kernel upgrade but it doesent boot the pc!
my root particion is reiserfs on IDE and slack 11.0

this error get: No filesistem counld mount root,triel: ext2
kernel panic - not syncing:VFS: Unable to mount fs on unknown-block(3,1)

this install step i have use:

first i install the kernel:

kernel-generic-2.6.17.13-i486-1.tgz
kernel-headers-2.6.17.13-i386-1.tgz
kernel-modules-2.6.17.13-i486-1.tgz
kernel-source-2.6.17.13-noarch-1.tgz

it gone ok.
then i use mkinitrd -c -k 2.6.17.13 -m reiserfs

i edit lilo.conf
# Linux bootable partition config begins
image = /boot/vmlinuz-generic-2.6.17.13
root = /dev/hda1
label = Slack
read-only
# Linux bootable partition config ends

- lilo -v and it reboot my pc

when it boot it get those error.
i have use a boot cd and i have edit lilo.conf and add this line:
initrd = /boot/initrd.gz

but nothing same error.

please some solution.....realy need the new kernel!

After you edited lilo.conf for the initrd line, did you rerun lilo?
Code:
chroot /dev/hda1
lilo -v

yes i run lilo!

this code have mount the hda1 to root particion?no
i use slackware cd to boot: sata.i root=/dev/hda1 noinitrd ro
in this way i monunt root particion!

next i used your code "chroot /dev/hda1" and get error that: cannot mount root particion!
ok! i try lilo -v and same message ..... all ok.

boot pc and ...... the pc is bootind os .... i was surprised ..is really booting..
now i`ve other problem whit X windows cannot start and cannot install driver (i have nvidia FX5200) and use nvidia driver 1.0.... this message get: CANNOT COPILE DRIVER

now i will try the new nidia driver(NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9746-pkg1.run) maybe it will work.

can i have problem whit other driver?or program?
thanks

Did you compile reiserfs into kernel? If you compiled it as module you should have added it on initrd.gz, and I guess you didn't bother to go through initrd, find all the modules there and either compile them into kernel or replace them with new modules compiled from 2.6.17 kernel source.
