dkms kernel panic error - D-Link DWA-160B2 driver

So, what I have now is a Toshiba Satellite C855 dual booting Ubuntu 12.04 and some other OS with a start button I think as I rarely use that side LOL. I have the onboard 2.4 ghz wireless working fine. I recently bought a DWA-160 usb adapter and installed (as seems many have) according to info here ..

http://bernaerts.dyndns.org/linux/74...k-dwa160-revb2

Occasionally, I get a kernel panic referencing something about a dkms error. I suppose my question is 'Where can I find a log file of the actual error that is being reported?' so as to 1. Maybe learn something myself, and 2. Provide more useable info here.

stats ...

uname -r
3.8.0-33-generic

lsusb
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 2001:3c1a D-Link Corp.

lsmod (among other things, these seem relevant)
Module Size Used by
rtl8192ce 58733 0
rtl8192c_common 49561 1 rtl8192ce
drm_kms_helper 49597 1 i915
rtlwifi 81225 1 rtl8192ce

My guess is that something with updating the driver isn't playing nice with other modules. Any help would be appreciated.

Start with 'locate dkms', 'man dkms', 'dkms status' and 'grep dkms -r /var/log'?
