Creating bootable iso from kernel source

Hi,

I want to boot virtual box from kernel iso image. I am using kernel 2.6 for this and i have compiled the kernel. Now i want to know how to create bootable iso image from the kernel binary.
Although i have aleady created iso image of the same using brasero disc burner, when i try to boot virtualbox from this iso i get the following error:
Fatal: could not read from boot medium. system halted

What could be the problem? i guess the iso i am creating is not bootable. Can anyone please help.

Thanks in advance.

See to create a bootable iso you can use
#mkisofs -b boot.img -o youriso.iso directory

boot.img is the bootloader image it can be gldr in case if you want grub to be bootloader
search for mkisofs tutorial on google to know more for command.

You need more than merely a kernel in order to have a functional Linux host. You will probably want to create at least an initrd image for the bootloader to load, which is probably the least userspace code you can get away with. Using busybox as the primary userspace application, including the init process, seems to be the common wisdom these days.
