CentOS 6 update kernel to 3.14.4

Hi guys,

I currently run CentOS 6 and newest kernel from the official REPOs / yum.

I'm interested to update kernel to 3.14.4 and iptables to 1.4.21

What is the easyest and safest way to get this done? Are there some official testing RPMs out there for this or I would need to re-compile the kernel manually?

Thanks

You should NOT try this. CentOS6 is derived from RHEL6 and both are designed to work with 2.6.x kernels. You'll end up needing more and more things not in the repository to do this.

If you want to run the latest kernel you should move to a distro designed to use it like Fedora.

Definitely agree on this one. Everything in a "distro" is rather-tightly coupled together, and the distro publishers to actually get it all to work together. If you do something as radical as fundamentally change the kernel-version, especially a majpr-version change, your ship is quite likely to sink.

Instead, switch to a distro that uses the new kernel, once again allowing its publishers to do the dance on your behalf.
