Windows XP and RED HAT duel boot problem

hiya

this is my prob,

I have got a 80G windows XP partion and a 10G Red hat partion.

With the 10G as master (after many switching around with master and slave, i get the the best results with linux being master and windows slave)

this is what happens in my current situation with linux being the master.

I installed XP, then Linux with GRUB

i then get a error message something like Grub error in finding hardware (its summit like that error, cant really rember, im in work now+i know i have set up the hda, and hdb up right, with linux beigin hda2 (auto picked by install) and hb1 being windows, i think its hb1 or hdb0 but there is only 1 partion in the 80 gig and thats got windows on it)
so then i tried installing red hat again but this time using Lilo and i just get an error called "L" thats it, just L!!!

but i beleave i may be getting somewhere, i just think that it unable to find the windows boot, so tongiht im gonna use windows rescue disk and FIXBOOT or FIXMBR. after this i will go into the linux station and reinstall GRUB.

HOPEFULLY this will then work, but i would love any suggestions, i think i may be doing this all wrong and i dont mind reformating the HD's.

Any help would be appreciated. If you know a way of fixing it in the linux terminal i can always boot into linux using a boot disk. I tried using the root commands and the setup commands in the GRUB terminal with no luck.

plz post back

i am a utter
