When booting ,that show error ..


I have 4 hard drives in my linux system.but today when I booting the linux,that show "LABEL=/home/hdc contains file system errors,check forced",after few hours ,the screen show "you should fsck this disk manually ctrl+D to reboot",,so I reboot and go into the signle mode,I fsck /dev/hdc1,but that can't work fine,whtn it show "contains file system errors",that prograss stoped.
what that mean's and what take this error?
ps:what can i do to format the disk to ext3 fs and make the partion's label?
thx!
