What router and adapter does actually work with linux (ubuntu)?

I am so fed up I could puke.
Bought a Linksys router E1200. Can't even get a wired connection with it let alone a wireless connection. Bought a new Netgear adapter to see if my router was even broadcasting a signal. The Linksys setup software, searching for an adapter in my pc, can't even find one. This is insane. Is there such a thing as a Linux compatible router and adapter?

I have yet to find a router that doesn't work with Linux and I've tried a few (Linksys, Dlink, SMC). What tends to not work is some of their supporting software which is designed for Windows users. In theory the router should connect out of the box with no fuss. My current model at home is a Linksys E2000. The only flaw with it is that you can only modify "Guest Mode" with the Windoze software (someone definitely asleep in that dept.) as that option is not available in the Web GUI.

In your documentation, you'll probably note the router's default address (ie; 192.168.1.1). For the initial set up you'll want to connect directly to your PC (with a cable) and use a web browser to go to whatever address is prescribed. From there the first thing you should consider is what type of connection you have and make adjustments accordingly. Since you did not specify what that was, we can't help you much further than this.

Hi,

I really doubt that it is a router problem. What do you see for;
Code:
ifconfig -a
Problem is likely to be your configuration. DHCP or Static IP? Correct devie driver & firmware? System information? Distribution? You do need to provide us with more information.

FYI: I suggest that you look at 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' so in the future your queries provide information that will aid us in diagnosis of the problem or query.
