aoa
will u tell which linux u r using and which version ,kernel??
and how in rh use the kppp dialler to configure the external modem but firstly check is ur serial port is maped to com 1o or com 2 or com 3 or com4 com1 =tty///s1 in linux
com2 =ttyS1
\and so on
kppp is the best to configure the modem in rh ....well configuring the erternal modem is the most easiest modem configfuration in rh
then u change the /dev/ttyS? query modem and look at the modem lights

another potion is to use the minicom
or modemtools
good luck

Hi Thanks for your reply I am setting up Mandrake 9.0 I do not know the kernel..sorry.

I wanted to get an idea if it would accept the modem before I bought it.

I currently run windows but linux will not accept my win modem....I have been offered the Web Excell 33.6 external
very very cheap so I am trying to see if it will work before I pay of it
