Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Video Card Memory Usage - How to tell?

Howdy,

Can anyone tell me how to determine how much of my video card memory is being utilized? I have a feeling that my OS, using a generic driver, is not using the full 128MB of video memory allowed by my card (Inno3D GeForce4). Thanks so much.

If you are using "a generic driver" you are unlikely to be getting the best performance from your video card. The GeForce4, I believe, is based on an NVIDIA chipset: Try installing the NVIDIA driver for linux from NVIDIA.

hi, i'm in need of a way to do precisely what was asked (but never answered) in this thread... i was about to open a new thread but i used the "find similar threads" thing and i found this... so anyways, i'd like to know if there's a way to see how much video card memory is being used any given moment... maybe something sort of like the command:
Code:
cat /proc/meminfo
but specifically for graphics memory... anyone know how to do this??
