getting realtime info on memory usage-cpu and harddrive usage
i was looking at some linux screenshots on the internet and i saw that most of them has a bar to the right of the dekstop showing info on cpu-harddrive and memory usage. could someone tell me how do i go about getting such info onto my desktop. i am usin mepis linux. thanks

found a very cool one that does the same thing as gkrellm. use apt-get and install superkaramba it has lots of kool themes.

Yes there are many applications that can display this kind of information:
torsmo seems to be very popular now and so are gdesklets.

If you use KDE, you can install karamba and get cynapses from kde-apps.org Give's system info, cpu load graph, memory load, Disk usage, all that good stuff... Plus you can modify a karamba config file to include programs like xmms.
