Jul 29 19:30:41 baer kernel: usb 2-2: Manufacturer: Canon

Question What goes on before lsusb shows up an usb device?

I assume my last thread wasn't formulated good. Because I assume all you linux gurus should know out of the top of your head what the steps are between an usb device plugged in and identified as such (as shown by the /var/log/messages) and the status where it is available for being shown by lsusb.

So where can I look for the error?

TIA for any help

You might want to leave the scanner plugged in at boot. Sometimes hotplug doesn't stay connected to an idle device. If you plug in the scanner, and use it right away, or at least access it, it should stay connected. Or, if you let the bootup install the scanner it will stay there.

Thank you for your hints - I tried both:
Booting with scanner connected
Trying to use directly after connecting

Unfortunately without success. So I'm still looking for further advice.
