Question usb scanner supported, will not work with SuSE 9.1

Upgraded from suse 8.2 to 9.1.
Strange thing happens: my usb scanner is recognized, supported, but will not work. (Did work fine under 8.2) XSane reports that no device is detected. In the hardware summary (yast) the device is listed allright.

Hardware: asus a7n8x deluxe, 512 Mb Ram, AMD 2400+ processor. Scanner: acer 620u.
