USB problems with 2.6.0test11 - LOW system responsiveness

Hi!

I have switched to the 2.6 kernel series due to the higher performance and advanced features offered but there still are a few issues to be solved. One problem I cannot figure out a solution for is that whevever there is USB activity going (which in my system equals to ACM usb modem activity since I do not use any other USB device under linux), the system becomes very sluggish. Had it not been for the preemtible kernel function I suppose I wouldn't be able to use the system at all while data is flowing to/ftom the /dev/usb/ttyACM0 device!

There is no such issue under 2.4.22 or 2.4.23.

Do you have any idea of what could be wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!
GD

I forgot to mention: I have tried to use both the OHCI and the EHCI USB ports of my mobo. Here's a brief system config I should have posted anyway:

abit nf7-s version 2.0 (nforce2 400 mobo)
256MB DDR266
axp2400+
matrox g400MAX gfx
WD120JB HD
Fedora Core 1 Linux
M-audio audiophile 2496 sound card AND nforce2 audio
nforce LAN (using reverse engineered forcedeth open source driver built in the kernel)

i have uploaded the .config used to compile the kernel at http://hwwolf.virtualave.net/temp/keep.config
