Lightbulb

there is maybe something wrong with your 'fstab' file
you can find it most of the times in /etc/

Is it possible that you copy that to this forum?

Post Is it possible

Did you by any chance format it to NTFS?

Sometimes different OS's have probs reading Winblows Formats...

It just started to funtion, all by itself.
First it turned up as sdb1, today it is sdc1.
It is nothing in fstab.

Unless you want to use it with a Windows machine, it may be worth reformating by ext2 (not ext3); I found I got the occasional error in file copying when using the supplied filing system. The symptom of an error is when it is suddenly declared read-only, with no explanation.
