USB Pen/iPod

I am having problems with my USB pen and iPod. Everytime I plug/unplug them they get assigned different numbers (sda1, sda2, sda3, etc). This makes it hard because they are set to sda1 and sdb2 in my /etc/fstab. Is there any way to ensure that my USB pen or iPod will be called the same name everytime I plug it in?
