usb intellimouse issuing keystrokes!!!

Ok, i'm having the weirdest problem: my mouse seems to work perfectly in the regular text console, with gpm installed. However, as, i noticed before i installed the software to do console mouse stuff, clicking the mouse on any of its 5 buttons issues a keystroke. like, the left mouse button will issue a Q, and if i hold it down, QQQQQQQ.... My right mouse button, it's a WWWWWWW. This extraneous output does NOT show up in Xfree86.

So, anyway, a little background: i'm using udev instead of devfs, i'm in kernel 2.6.8-gentoo-r3. don't have framebuffer configured, and, as i said, except for the extra output, gpm works just fine. The mouse is a MS wireless usb mouse. it puts out to /dev/input/mice, and /dev/psaux.

anyone can give me a hand, i'd be much obliged!

Thanks

update:

I took a look at my last kernel config, and it would appear that I had "raw HID device support" enabled. I removed this item and started compiling the kernel, but I had to go to work. so, when I get home, i'll see if that makes any difference.

Seems to me that that character output is something that a confused raw device would do...kind of like catting your mouse, except a little more organized... We'll see.

Any other ideas?

That really didn't do anything...however, i managed to get the framebuffer working :-) Still get keystroke signals from my mouse, though, so anything anyone can do to help me troubleshoot this...again, it would be cool.
