Hi all,
I need to install Linux onto a board without a ethernet port. Normally I use Debian net install, so will net install detect a USB to ethernet converter from boot?
Thanks
I would not count on that. You could always take out the bootdisk for the box and debootstrap it in another machine.
Or you could try finnix to see if your usb-adapter gets detected.
It depends on the type of your converter and the version of Debian you want to install. If it is not detected you can also use the CD 1 of the installation set to install Debian.
Hi I was fortunate, the usb converter worked straight out of the box. Apparently it has to do with the chip set. However finding out the chip set seems to be a bit hit and miss. I just bought a cheap one from a local computer shop for 5.99 (UK), without knowing. I could see some on line with the correct chips (Pegasus etc) but these were coming in at a hefty 40-70 (UK). So went for pot luck and it worked.
