Upgrading HD in RedHat 8.0 that uses GRUB
SInce nobody's written a Howto it seems in about three years, I had a helluva time migrating a server over to a larger drive.
I followed the darned mini-HowTo and soon realized that I needed to reinstall Grub onto the new drive. Or so I thought. What actually was causing me more headached was the fact that grub.conf and the FSTAB file both refer to the partitions LABEL. When I copied everything obver to the new drive, I didn't realize that I would NEED to label the partitions just as they were on the old drive.
I finally discovered tune2fs!
[root@server1 /]# tune2fs -L /1 /dev/hdb
I had to boot to the old drive since the new one (presently hdb) didn't boot.
All is great now.
Thanks LQ folks! You DID help!
