trying to set up a HTPC - cant get sound out through spdif

I installed Fedora Core 3, and the soundcard detection notices both the intel sound device (which I dont want to use) and the Chaintech 7.1 AV710 C-media Envy24HT-S card.

I can not get any sound out through the SPDIF optical output from the card to my stereo.

I have gone to the Volume Control and unmuted everything under the tab labeled "AMP Ltd AUDIO2000 [Alsa Mixer] " tab, and tried to mute everything under the "Intel ICH5 [alsa Mixer]" tab

Any help? Thanks
