Troubles with DE500 for alphaserver

I'm using a DE500 on an alphaserver with RedHat 7.1, but I'm hving troubles configuring it. It is the second Network Adapter and he first one is onboard (and I've never had any problems with it).

How can I configure a second card?

Thanks A lot

first modprobe it
/sbin/modprobe tulip
than see if it is recognized by /sbin/ifconfig
/sbin/ifconfig eth1
Now the actual setup, as I understand you are using RedHat system or derivitive of it (Mandrake, and so on), take a look at /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory, you'll find there ifcfg-eth0, so copy this file as ifcfg-eth1 and edit it accordingly - it is self-explanatory so I drop the details, just prepare all the needed infos such as IP address, if it is a dynamic IP make sure it gets assigned by DHCP or anyother means, netmask, gateway, etc when it is done a test phase engaged - in the same directory issue
./ifup ifcfg-eth1
Now if you issue
/sbin/ifconfig eth1
it should tell you if it is up or not
and if it isn't verify your network settings and try again

Thanks

Thanks... hehe, I'm used to the Micro$oft (c) Solution... re-installing.

Anyway, I took off the card and booted, then halted and put again the Network Adapter, then booted again and configured it using kudzu.

I am in a rush, I have to configure 100% that alpha for tomorrow at 6 o'clock. After that my peace will be broken every 2 minutes asking if it is ready. Thanks for answering anyway.

yeah, I'm ashamed of that... Anyway, that linux is a little bit trouble for me... You see, whenever I try to startx it would return a problem with configurations... I think I'll just sell it and buy a newer alpha (GS-160 www.compaq.com for more info con alpha GS-160)
