I know this is not fixing your problem, but Redhat 5.2 is extremely old, you should update to the later version 9.0 at least. The ealier version will have many bugs and your hardware may be to new and not supported by the ealier version.

Thank you for your response

Thank you. I will try this. It is just that I did not want to buy new SDRAM memory to put in my old p-166mHz!!! If I get other problems, I'll know where to find answers!!

Upgrading to a more recent release is definitely a wise move. Be advised though that Redhat officially ended support for Redhat v9 in either April or May of last year. The distro is still perfectly usable, however, you will need to regularly monitor and install any new security packages.

Redhat's alternative to its Enterprise level product is Fedora. That may be an even better choice. -- J.W.

You shouldn't need to buy new memory to have Redhat running, even on a old machine. All my machine bar one have SDRam, and I run Suse, Mandrake and Redhat. I had Mandrake 9.2 running in a P166 with 48 mb of ram, ran alittle slow but work perfectly. Yes forgot to mention that Redhat will no longer produce free Operating system anymore after 9.0, but they are supporting the Fedora Project. Take a look at Fedora Core 3, It's a really nice looking operating system, great hardware support, just great to use.
