I have visited every site on the planet to find a solution to this problem, and haven't got anything back.

Do you have the option of disabling ACPI support on the motherboard?

Everything I can find on the net seems to be related to the power monitoring/conservation features of the motherboard. So, I am grasping at straws, here; but linux doesn't play nicely with some BIOS settings. PNP enable, PNP auto-detect, PNP aware operating system, and the like are common examples. Turn this feature OFF for linux if you have it on in the BIOS.

I would also turn off any power monitoring features in the BIOS, too, and see what happens.

Cheers--

I am having exactly the same problem. All those things appear to be off in the Bios so I am at a loss too. Has to be someone out there that knows the answer.

PS. I also have a copy of Mandrake 9.0 and it hangs during the install at what I would guess is exactly the same spot. The screen is blank during this part of the MD9.0 install so I can't tell for sure.

Another point that may be of use is that I didn't have any problem doing an upgrade with RH7.2. I didn't have to change any BIOS settings. I would have thought that distros would be getting smarter not dumber when it comes to sorting out BIOS settings.

Problem solved. Sort of. It was the ACPI setting. Not that it was enabled but disabled. Once enabled it has installed Half perfectly.

With such fantastic advances in software and the ease at which they install wouldn't it be so nice for it to simply apend the new boot options to your existing lilo or grub config file? Now I have to try and find my older installs to boot to.
