Trouble transferring music to iRiver X20

Hello all

I am having trouble transferring music files to my iRiver X20 mp3 player. Actually, I have never been able to transfer any file to the player since day one, but I used to duel-boot with Windows XP, so it didn't really concern me.

But now I have upgraded to Ubuntu 7.10, I thought I would ask for advice here and sort it out.

When I try to copy file to the player, it stucks at the copying stage for ages without any progress (sometimes transferring a few out of a numbers of files), then later on, an error message comes up 'Error "I/O error" while copying.

I also try connecting it with Amarok 1.4.8, but didn't work either.

I would really appreciate if any one could point me to the right direction and sort out this issue.

Thanks
roger

Please use Google to see if your player uses the MTP protocol, in which case you must additional software (Google will help you here too). Many players require proprietary applications.

Hi

thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, the player does have an option of using MTP protocol. I have another search on Google and found the following website:

http://libmtp.sourceforge.net/index.php?page=project

It suggests that by install libmtp, i would be able to transfer files.

I did a search using Synaptic Package Manager and it appears that i have mtp-tools installed. I would like to give it a try, the 'man mtp-XXXX' did not produce any information on how to transfer files. A search on Google again proved to be fruitless.

I would really appreciate if you or anyone could point me to the right direction, as it is getting quite frustration and bored listening to the smae songs again and again.

thanks
R

Hi!
Some time ago I was searching about mp3 players stuff for Linux and I found this:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ifpgui/...
I'm not sure but maybe it helps. Searching for iRiver in SourceForge returns lots of results... Maybe something interesting.
