Trouble Mounting CD-ROM Drive

I'm having trouble getting SuSE 9.3 to recognize my cd-rom drive. Before I did my first patch update I could put a cd into my drive and SuSE would automatically recognize it and mount it and I had no trouble viewing the files on my cd's. But now I have to mount the drive manually and even then when I try to view the files on my cd I get an error message saying "No media in device for /media/cdrom". I am fairly new to Linux so any help that somebody could give would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I am using the most recent version of KDE desktop

Hi

Andygo is right . Must check your /etc/fstab file . THis is the file where the O/S goes to see what files has to be mounted at Boot up . If your cdrom is not there , or is not the right class , or shows the wrong mount point , it will not work

Good luck

Ok. Here is the info in my /etc/fstab file:

/dev/sda6 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/sda2 /windows/C ntfs ro,user,gid=users,umask=0002,nls=utf8 0 0
/dev/sda5 swap swap pri=42 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0

Maybe somebody that has a system that works fine could post their /ect/fstab file. That might give me a clue. I tried using a usb memory stick and that was automaticaly detected and worked fine. So it is just the cdrom that is having the problem. Again the problems are that it doesn't auto mount and when I try to manually mount it it doesn't recognize that there is anything in the drive.

Well, your autodetect is their "subfs" but the dev is probably incorrect...
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0

Try:
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
