Arrow problem w/ mounting cd rom drive @ in new help


when i try to mount my cdrom drive it says

"device /dev/cdrom is not a valid block device"

my ls -l /dev/cdrom says

irwxrwxrw 1 root root 8 mar 12 20:23 /dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdc

and when i type in /etc/cdrom it dosnt come up w/ anything

what should i do??? how do i fix this??


i don't know much about linux im new soo try to explain stuff as best you can thanks!!!

post your /etc/fstab file and output of
ls -l /dev/cdrom
I believe I just sent you an e-mail reply pertaining the issue.

insert your cd to the cd-rom drive and try mount /mnt/cdrom to mount and umount /mnt/cdrom to unmount

you could go to your cd files by issuing cd /mnt/cdrom command

mount floppy cdrom

i am running phat linux which is supposed to be based on red hat and mandrake i can not mount the floppy i can format it all though it is a possibility the reason for the floppy not working is because it is Windows format it contains images so far all attempt to mount or see the icon of the cd rom have been futile i receive many different messages and the constant message is during the boot process the line bla bla bla 9660 is not does not exist i can run a music cd frun linux inviorment i just cant see any data i have a linux cd i think should be seen also is there a program where in windows i can use a linux floppy i am aware of emulators i am not looking to run linux programs in windows since my dial up is aol windows is the only source for new apps for linux
