Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

TOSlink track change with ALSA and XMMS

I just bought myself a soundcard with TOSlink digital I/O, so I can record to minidisc digitally. Audio works fine, but XMMS doesn't send track change info on new tracks, so I get a single track on the minidisc. (When recording from CD, the minidisc gets a signal on track change, so it knows when to create a new track even on run-on recordings).

Is this a shortcoming of my soundcard, ALSA, XMMS or me? Any suggestions?

Some info:
Terratec Aureon 5.1 (terrible card, but cheap)
Linux 2.4.30
Alsa driver 1.0.9
XMMS 1.2.10
