The notebook for Linux

The main thing that makes a lot of questions is that I want to buy a notebook

I've been wanting it for a long time and at last I can allow it to itself. A small and speedy computer of cource must has a convenient and reliable operational system. I don't really think that Microsoft Windows can *help* me, so I've choosen Linux about which I've read some documentation and even tried some of its distributions (RedHat, Mandrake, SuSE and want to use Slackware. Some people advised me it). Off cource my choice's created some questions which I want to set.

1. What is minimal notebook configuration for Linux (mainly Slackware)?
2. What processor type can you advise? (Intel Pentium/Celeron/Centrino, AMD Athlom etc.)
3. What do I have to know before installing Linux Slackware on notebook?

Beforehand thanks.

If you are familiar with Slackware, then you will have no problems. THe only problem you might have is with the modem. Since they are all win modems. I have a Toshiba laptop and the install and setup worked just fine.

Dont let them fool you, Slackware is extreamly strait forward, And its easy to install i say..

The onlything that you must know befor the install is the in and outs of partitioning... Gotta know it like the back of ur hand (well not that much) Ull have to use a advanced fdisk program, Its not as strait forward as the install is, It is what I belve the hardest thing about installing slackware,
After the partitioning u shouldent have any problems.

I just figued ide post that because a lot of people will tell u how hard it is (witch didnt help me when i started useing slackware) So I wanted to tell u how easy it was.

i have slackwre installed here with 1,5G of system (together with firefox, oneOffice,AcrobatReader), if you want to work with OpenOffice you will need 256M of RAM (i also had it running on a pc with 96M but it was real! slow) if you can get along with abiword you will need approx 128M, if you only work on console you 64 M might be sufficient,
as long as your processor is ~ K6-II, Pentium II it might be sufficient, mostly the bottleneck (on linux) is RAM.
btw there is also a russian slackware site: http://www.slackware.ru
