Tape Drive problem under Slack9

This sucker worked like a wet dream under RH7.3, but I can't seem to get this thing to work. I have recompiled the kernel, and all the SCSI junk is in there. I'm testing using mt -f {device} rewind to see if it works. I've used /dev/st0(worked under RH), /dev/tape,/dev/tap0,/dev/ftape and nothing.
I have a AHA2920-A SCSI card, and a Conner tape drive that uses QIC-WIDE tapes. Help is needed due to the fact that my backups from the old server are on here, nad I need to get them back bad.

Whats the model number of the tape drive?

Is the drive recognized by the SCSI controller?

Is the drive being recognized by the OS?
cat /proc/scsi/scsi

Do you have all of the SCSI modules loading including st?
