I also had no sound. So, in the interests of being helpful, I clicked on the SuSE menu (the green circle with lightning), Administration, YAST2 Modules, Hardware, Sound and configured the card using automatic setup. I now have sound.

Surely you mean "new to linux having onlu used SuSE"? SuSE is a distribution of Linux - a modified version, if you like. I am new to SuSE and considering get hold of version 9 when it's out.
