You will have to upgrade your red hat and add the sndconfig command (its not installed by default on rh 8). Once you are done run the sndconfig command on an xterm and then select your card.

If you want to check if the modules are well added, run lsmod on an xterm, you will see:
soundcore - emu10k1 - sound
