sound on knoppix-Debian 3.2

I run sndconfig to configure my soundcard and it detects the "CM8738", but after an error occurred:

An error occurred while writing
the config file.

end now, when KDE starts:

Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

* I am using Knoppix 3.2 distr installed on hd *

Does somebody knows how to make it works?

thanks
