knoppix to go debian

hi people
here's a couple of probs i'm having at the mo

so i've gone through the hell of trying to install debian (failed) fallen back onto knoppix HDD install and all is good...except....

1) every time i reboot i loose all my settings, bookmarks, preferences, etc
2)i don't have a home partition, how do i make one? its a bit irritating having to be su to write to /home
3)can someone give me a hint on setting up my dual head nvidia(ti4200) card? at the mo i anlo have one monitor going

after this is sorted i will go to debian. i have the 7 debian cd's and have added them to my apt source. whats the apt-get command to get it going.
thanks.

There is a comprehensive hard drive install of Knoppix link off the Knoppix site which explains how to setup a new user and then delete Knoppix user. You must bear in mind that Knoppix is not a standard Debian system but a mishmash of stable and testing and therefore fairly difficult to convert. If you want the Woody version then you could set your /etc/apt/sources.list to point at;
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main
deb-src http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main
deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US stable/non-US main
deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main
deb http://security.debian.org/ woody/updates main contrib non-free
replacing the "uk" with your own regional id.
Then do apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade.
Could you perhaps elaborate on what went wrong with the Debian install?
