2 problems with sound and soundcard:

1) my sound card supports both midi and full duplex (in Windows, sorry if I name it), but Linux don't say so.

I think I should recomplie the kernel adding the right modules, is right?
if so, what are the modules I should add?
(I'm using kernel 2.4 series because I have weird graphic problems with 2.6)

2) except that problem, soundcard works good if I enable hotplug, but doesn't work if I turn off hotplug.
How I can fix this? (it's a bother turn on hotplug and slowing so much the boot process only for this, I think)

Go to the Alsa web page and download the driver, library and utilities. Check the sound card matrix to see if your card is supported and what driver to use and how to configure it.

my soundcard is CMI8738

installing ALSA, nothing change............

So what options have you passed to the sound modules? What errors do you get when you try to start the Alsa init.d script?
