Sound Blaster live! not working under Slackwere 9.1
I am running Slackware 9.1. My Sound Blaster LIve! didn't work, so I ran "alsamixer" and saved my settings. My sound still didn't work, so I downloaded and installed the lasted alsa driver, but it still didn't work. I think I just don't know what I am doing. Thanks for any help.
by default, the volume levels on any sound mixers in Slackware are LOW.
alsamix, aumix, kmix......whatever your using open it up and check the volume level...........
AND make sure your user has the proper access permissions to /dev/mixer and /dev/dsp
I just installed Slackware 9.1 myself and was having the same problems (how I ended up here ). I opened up 'alsamixer' to find that most of the options were muted (a MM above the volume bar). I proceded to unmute all of them to find that it did not work, still no sound. Now, I have two sound chipsets in my system and I am not sure if this will apply to you. One, a SBL! Gamer PCI card. The other, a SIS SI7012 on-board (ie: mounted on motherboard). When I took another look at 'alsamixer', I saw that it was using the SIS chipset. By hitting F2, you can bring up the "/proc screen" that is built into alsamixer and it will display the different chipsets that are currently installed on you machine in the "/proc/asound/cards" section. Here's an example of mine:
/proc/asound/cards: │
│=================== │
0 [SI7012 ]: ICH - SiS SI7012 │
│ │ SiS SI7012 at 0xd800, irq 10
1 [Live ]: EMU10K1 - Sound Blaster Live! │
│ │ Sound Blaster Live! (rev.7) at 0xcc00, irq 5 │
│
alsamixer defaults to your primary card (ie: 0), so in order to view the settings for 1 you need to start the program like this:
bash# alsamixer -c 1
Adjust settings, keep in mind the mute, and hopefully that will get ya going.
