SOS: no peripherals working on RH9

Hi another Linux newbie. Have installed RH9 (from download ISO's)-thanks RedHat. Install went fine, no hangs or crashes. system is IBM Aptiva, AMD K6-2, 256 RAM. worked through slowness issues. None of peripheral devices work, Canon S520 printer on parallel, HP 3500c scanner on USB and internal dial-up modem, none work although all recognized by the hardware detection during installation. CUPS shows printer and prints test page but no Apps(open office etc) nor GNOME print manager will see it. same with scanner, XSANE won't see it, and Modem not seen by Internet Wizard, (definitely not a WINmodem) even though hardware checker reports it during boot up. Any help appreciated, have been fighting it for 1-1/2 weeks, could not find any useful help doing GOOGLE searches.

I realize I have not included 'logs' etc, at the moment I have not fully grasped the terminal command functions, but this seems a very basic set up issue. Email guy_fawkz@hotmail.com

Well, could you look tru /var/log/messages for errors? Try "less /var/log/messages". Also posting error messages you encounter like when you try to select a printer in Open Office, or errors returned by the Internet Wizard etc etc may help.
