A friend of mine wants to use his Sony Walkman NW-S705F mp3 player on Linux (Suse, v 10.something), but he hasn't been able to get it working. I've been trying to help, but no joy so far.
The player comes with a software package for Windows only.
In Linux, we can access the player as a USB device, and can see files on it. He has also been able to copy mp3s to it, but he can't get them to play.
Doesnt the sony software convert the mp3's to that Atrac or something stupid like that so that the player can play it? or does this model use actual unmodified mp3.
I don't really know much about it, but if so, they must surely be the only company still making players that don't do mp3. Even IPods allow normal mp3 files.
If that really is the way it works, it's very very very annoying! Grrrr. Ummmm... so can anyone tell us how to convert mp3s to Sony's format? Or is this device truly Windows only?
The last time I checked into this, the device was Windows only. I don't think things have moved on since then. I tried using Wine and also Qemu and still couldn't get it to work.
